December 3, 2025 — The Marlin Group, publisher of Marlin magazine and the largest operator of international big‑game fishing tournaments, today announced its acquisition of InTheBite magazine. This strategic addition strengthens the company’s longstanding commitment to serving the global big‑game fishing community across print, digital and experiential platforms, while positioning both brands for long-term growth in an evolving media landscape.
“InTheBite has long been recognized for its dedication to big‑game fishing through the unique and authentic lens of the professional crew,” said David Ritchie, Marlin Group CEO. “Its editorial voice, grounded on the bridge and in the cockpit, makes it a natural and powerful complement to Marlin’s traditional business.”
As part of the acquisition, founder and publisher Dale Wills will remain on board as Publisher to help guide the brand forward. His deep relationships within the sportfishing community and long‑standing advocacy for professional crews will continue to shape IntheBite’s future as it enters this next chapter.
“For decades, the Marlin team has set the standard in big-game fishing with its influential publication and signature events,” said Wills. “Together, the two brands will offer an unparalleled, 360‑degree view of the sport—from the anglers to the captains to the mates who make it all happen.”
Beginning in 2026, Marlin and InTheBite will publish in alternating months, giving readers a steady cadence of premium, highly focused content throughout the year. The year will culminate in December 2026 with a keepsake annual guide—The Best of Big Game 2027—that will feature standout content from both brands. The annual guide, more than three times the size of a standard issue of InTheBite, will celebrate the sport’s best stories, innovations and personalities, while awarding recipients for notable achievements in key categories, including InTheBite’s popular Captain of the Year program.
The Marlin Group’s Jack Vitek will serve as editorial director for both titles.

- Global competition recognizes year’s biggest tournament-caught blue marlin
- Winner-takes-all jackpot
- Honored as a MARLIN Achievement of the Year
February 27, 2025 – The Marlin Group, the world’s largest big-game fishing network, is making waves in 2025 with the launch of the Marlin Global Challenge. This high-stakes showdown invites teams from across the globe to battle for the biggest tournament-caught blue marlin of the year, with a winner-takes-all jackpot that could change the game for the winning team. With an ambitious $1 million target prize for its inaugural year, this new event is set to become the most electrifying annual challenge in big-game fishing.
“We awarded more than $5 million in cash payout in our international tournaments in 2024, and we’re targeting a payout exceeding $6 million this year,” said David Ritchie, CEO of The Marlin Group. “We recognize that a target payout of $1 million in our first year of operating this new Challenge format represents an ambitious goal, but that’s the scale of event we are intent on building.”
The winning team of the Challenge will be honored as an Achievement of the Year winner in a special annual edition of Marlin in December, 2025.
“Marlin has been a global leader and big-game authority for more than 40 years,” said Jack Vitek, Editor-in-Chief of Marlin. “The trust we’ve earned with readers, clients and tournament participants over four decades uniquely positions us with the expertise and credibility needed to execute this competition.”
Running from April 1, 2025, to October 31, 2025, the Marlin Global Challenge invites anglers who are participating in recognized blue marlin tournaments anywhere in the world to preregister with the Marlin Global Challenge for their chance at the title. Only catches from established tournaments with certified scales, weighmasters, and witness verification will be eligible. The registered team that catches the heaviest blue marlin over 500 pounds during this time will claim the title. With no divisions or regional limits, this is a truly global tournament that anyone who fishes an established tournament can win.
“We created the Marlin Global Challenge to fill a demand in the big-game fishing world,” said Jennifer Dudas, Tournament Director for The Marlin Group. “Teams that fish competitively can now chase a globally recognized achievement, no matter where, when or how often they fish. Our format really makes it easy for teams to participate. I couldn’t be more excited for the launch of the Marlin Global Challenge.”
The entry fee for each team is $2,000, with 85 percent of the prize pool awarded to the single heaviest blue marlin caught among registered boats. Total payout will be dependent on the number of boats participating, and will be awarded following a rigorous verification process to ensure the integrity of the competition.
With its straight-forward format, global participation, and a hefty payout, the Marlin Global Challenge is an easy and fun way to raise the bar even higher on your tournament plans for the year. Learn more or register today at marlinglobalchallenge.com.

The Marlin Group Names Industry Veteran, Dave Morel, as Publisher
Natasha Lloyd, retiring after 28 years, to remain on board as Publisher Emeritus
For Immediate Release
For inquiries, contact [email protected]
January 17, 2025 – WINTER PARK, FL – The Marlin Group, the world’s largest big-game fishing network, has named industry veteran, Dave Morel, as Publisher. Morel, who previously served as the group’s Sales Director, replaces Natasha Lloyd, who is retiring from day-to-day responsibilities after 28 years of service. Lloyd will continue to manage special projects for the brand as Publisher Emeritus.
“When we brought Dave Morel aboard as Sales Director, we did so knowing that we were also hiring Natasha Lloyd’s eventual successor,” said David Ritchie, Marlin Group CEO. “Dave has been a successful sales professional for some of the biggest media brands in the boating and fishing industry. He’s launched his own magazine, so he knows intuitively how to balance the needs of the client against the needs of the reader. And he also has been a client, working to manage a vibrant boat dealership during turbulent times. We know the Marlin brand is in good hands under his leadership.”
For Morel, the appointment represents a natural progression of leadership after selling across Bonnier’s former network of marine brands, which included the appointment as Publisher of both Salt Water Sportsman and Sport Fishing.
“This is such an amazing opportunity,” Morel said. “We are coming off the most significant year of strategic enhancements in Marlin’s 40-plus-year history, as we transformed what was just a magazine into a fully integrated network of complementary business pillars. Where we had advertisers before, we now have brand partners who benefit from integrated products and solutions that span across traditional media channels as well as a robust portfolio of best-in-class experiential events. The Marlin Group stands as the undisputed flagship for the global big-game community, and to be named Publisher at a time where we are positioned to strengthen that standing further is truly a dream come true.”
In announcing her retirement, effective at the end of February, Lloyd looks back on an impressive legacy in the big-game fishing industry.
“For more than 28 years, Natasha has carried the Marlin pennant proudly, and we are incredibly grateful for the many wonderful years that she dedicated to Marlin and to Bonnier,” Ritchie said. “Natasha is an icon in this industry, and for good reason. Setting Marlin up for success has been her steadfast mission, and she’s done that yet again in her departure, by hand-picking her successor. We are excited for her and wish her the very best in the future.”
In her new Publisher Emeritus role, Lloyd will provide consulting services and manage special projects for The Marlin Group. Recruiting is currently underway for an Associate Publisher/Sales Director to join The Marlin Group in a leadership position, reporting to Dave Morel. Interested candidates can apply here.

- New bimonthly publication schedule
- Special “bookazine” annual issue commemorating the best of big-game angling
- Heavier paper and wider format to showcase enhanced design
October 31, 2024 – WINTER PARK, FL – Bonnier LLC, publisher of Marlin magazine, has announced massive investments that will further strengthen Marlin’s position of leadership within the big-game fishing industry. Collectively, the investments will represent the most substantial enhancements to the magazine since its launch in 1982.
Beginning in January 2025, Marlin will feature a new publishing schedule that will include six bimonthly issues plus a seventh “bookazine” special issue in late 2025 commemorating the best of big-game angling. Every issue of Marlin will feature heavier cover stock and improved interior paper, as well as a wider trim size to showcase enhancements in editorial and design.
“Print remains a vibrant component of our audience strategy,” said David Ritchie, Marlin Group CEO. “In 2025, we’re improving everything about the magazine. Readers will feel the difference in the paper quality, and they’ll see the design enhancements that come with our wider trim size. With a consistent bimonthly schedule, our readers and clients can look forward to their issues with anticipation, enhancing the overall reading experience.”
“What these investments really reflect is a shift in mindset,” said Jack Vitek, Editor-in-Chief. “Marlin is not just a magazine that people subscribe to. It is the journal for a close-knit community of like-minded anglers, and our product needs to reflect that. Each issue needs to be a collectible keepsake that is showcased on every salon table. Everything we have in store for 2025 is borne out of that line of thinking.”
The commitment to reader experience extends beyond print. A new publishing schedule has also been developed to drive increased engagement and retention across all of the group’s digital channels, most notably email, where caps on send volume will ensure Marlin Group emails stand out in the in-box.
“For more than 40 years, Marlin has been at the center of all things big-game fishing, and the investments we’re making in 2025 reflect our continuing commitment to this passionate community,” Ritchie said.

Jack Vitek joins The Marlin Group as new Editor-in-Chief
For Immediate Release
For inquiries, contact [email protected]
June 10, 2024 – WINTER PARK, FL – The Marlin Group, the world’s largest big-game fishing network, completes a senior management makeover nearly six months in the making with the appointment of Jack Vitek as its new Editor-in-Chief. Vitek joins Marlin after nearly 15 years of service to the International Game Fish Association (IGFA), most recently as its Marketing Director.
“When we set out to find a new Editor-in-Chief who could help us elevate our content strategy across all Marlin Group activities, we were looking for someone who checked three boxes,” said David Ritchie, Marlin Group CEO. “First, we needed someone who has time in the cockpit and understands the big-game fishing industry. Second, we were looking for someone who had experience in the publishing of print and digital content. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we needed a good cultural fit for the team, someone who could represent Marlin out on the docks or at a boat show. That’s a tall order, but we found that and more in Jack Vitek.”
In taking on the new role with Marlin, Vitek will be charged with developing and executing a content strategy that fully integrates all four Marlin Group pillars – media, tournaments, expeditions and advocacy.
“Jack’s personal enthusiasm for big-game fishing, combined with his long experience at the IGFA, gives him a strong foundation to help us better leverage our tournaments and expeditions as content factories,” Ritchie said. “And given his wide-ranging efforts to promote the conservation of game fish, he will play a key role in helping us build out Marlin’s advocacy platform.”
At the IGFA, Vitek was responsible for all of the association’s media activities, corporate partnerships, tournaments, and world records, leveraging content to promote the association’s membership while also advocating for responsible stewardship of all pelagic species.
“For more than 40 years, Marlin has been the definitive voice of big-game angling and synonymous with excellence,” Vitek said. “I’m honored, humbled and excited to join the talented team at the Marlin Group, where we will work to raise the bar on Marlin’s tradition of excellence as we promote the lifestyle, culture and passion of big-game angling.”
The hiring of Vitek, effective July 1, follows new appointments for all senior management positions within the group, starting with Natasha Lloyd to Publisher & Vice President in January of 2024. Other recent appointments include Dave Morel as Sales Director, Jennifer Dudas as Tournament Director, Capt. Jen Copeland as Expeditions Director, and Andrea Winters as Marketing Director.
