Winter Park, Fla. — Shawn Bean has been promoted to editorial director of Bonnier Corp.’s Active Interest Network (AIN). In this role, Bean will provide the diverse AIN brands with strategic editorial leadership to drive the businesses forward through the execution of thoughtful audience initiatives, and will serve as a valuable business partner for the AIN publishing team. Bean previously served as editorial director of the Dive and Travel groups within the AIN. The expansion of his duties will now include responsibility for the Fishing, Sailing and Boating/Aviation/Water Sports groups.

Among Bean’s first priorities in his new role is bringing additional strength, stability and structure to the AIN’s design and photography teams, in order to more effectively inspire, manage and leverage the skills and efforts of these creative-staff members.

 

To help drive this forward, Dave Weaver will join the AIN as a creative director, reporting to Bean and working with the designers on the Sailing, Travel and Dive brands. Jerry Pomales, a proven creative director who has played a key role in many successful Bonnier redesigns over the past two years, will work with the designers of the Fishing and the Boating/Aviation/Water Sports titles.

 

Bean joined Bonnier in 2009. He worked as senior editor of Florida Travel + Life and as executive editor of the Parenting Group, where he established a track record for developing innovative content initiatives that mixed print and digital mediums to generate new revenue streams. After joining the AIN in June 2013 as editor-in-chief of Destination Weddings & Honeymoons, Bean quickly led that team through a game-changing redesign effort that helped transform the brand, leading not only to critical acclaim but also to solid financial success. In October 2013, Bean took the reins of the Travel and Dive groups and has been busy leading the development of highly successful special issues of Caribbean Travel + Life and Florida Travel + Life, while also working with Pomales to implement significant redesigns for Sport Diver, Islands and Scuba Diving.

 

Weaver joined Bonnier in 1987, and over the past 27 years has served as art director of several brands, ranging in subject matter from Sport Diver to Garden Design. For the past nine years, he has been the creative director of Saveur. Throughout his tenure, Weaver has established himself as one of the company’s most respected designers.

 

Pomales has held a variety of creative-director roles at Bonnier since joining the company in 2008, and has overseen the redesigns of several brands during that time. Whether large or small titles, Pomales’ redesigns not only significantly improve the visual aesthetic of a brand, but also provide business solutions that positively impact revenue performance.
