New York, N.Y. — Saveur has been named Brand of the Year in the inaugural Bonnier Excellence Awards. This new awards program recognizes the company’s best in content, design, sales, program development, customer service and overall excellence. Winners were announced at an awards ceremony gala at the Orlando Museum of Art in Florida last night.
Saveur, led by Publisher Kristin Cohen and Editor-in-Chief James Oseland, performed exceedingly well, growing 36 percent year over year — including more than 11 percent in ad pages — and bringing in 90 new advertisers. On the editorial front, it had another stellar year — winning numerous awards including the epicurean title’s sixth ASME award.
Flying’s Robert Goyer won Editor of the Year. Judges commended Goyer on significantly advancing the way Flying leverages content to increase audience size and engagement on the brand’s website, social media, enews and tablet edition.
Sean Johnston of the company’s Outdoor Group took the Designer of the Year award. Johnston was cited for his relentless ambition in looking to do things better than before — continuing to create highly ambitious, high-quality, very cool designs.
In the sales categories, John McEver, publisher of Boating, was named Sales Representative of the Year. The Outdoor Group’s Paula Iwanski won Multichannel Sales Representative of the Year. Saveur’s Deanna Forgione was Sales Manager of the Year, while Kelly Freygang took home the Rookie of the Year award.
Other category winners include the Motorcycle Group’s Garret Kai for Marketer of the Year and Field & Stream’s Heroes of Conservation for Program of the Year. Ryan Williams won Customer Service Representative of the Year for his work in the IT department.
Two special awards were presented by Bonnier Corp. CEO Dave Freygang. The CEO Choice Award for the “unsung heroes” of the company went to all three finalists: Tara Bisciello, Priscilla Scollin and Howie Tiller. And the President’s MVP Award went to Sean Holzman, chief brand development officer for the company.
