Newport, R.I. — Sailing World announced that Helly Hansen, a global leader in technical sailing apparel with more than 135 years of experience in the industry, signed on as title sponsor for the brand’s elite sailing series, the NOOD Regattas. The national regatta series kicks off with its first event in February, at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club in Florida. In its 27th consecutive year after beginning in 1988, the National Offshore One Design Regattas, also known as the “NOODs,” are the longest-running and most popular sailboat racing series in North America.
“We are ecstatic to make a splash in sailing in 2015 as the title sponsor of the NOOD Regatta Series. Ever since Captain Helly Juell Hansen created the first supple waterproof fabrics for his crew in 1877, sailing has been a part of our DNA,” said Filip Francke, vice president and general manager of Helly Hansen’s US Sport & Work Wear division. “We’re excited about building on our rich history in the sport with our highly-innovative 2015 sailing product line and our partnership with the NOOD Regatta Series. We look forward to a record year, and a fantastic season of racing with the NOOD Regatta Series.”
The 2015 Helly Hansen NOOD Regattas will sail into five cities including:
- St. Petersburg, FL: February 13-15 at St Petersburg Yacht Club
- San Diego, CA: March 13-15 at San Diego Yacht Club and Coronado Yacht Club
- Annapolis, MD: May 1-3 at Annapolis Yacht Club
- Chicago, IL: June 12-14 at Chicago Yacht Club

“As one of the global leaders in technical sailing apparel who has a distinct history in the sport and beyond, we are proud to have Helly Hansen at the helm of the NOOD Regattas,” said Sally Helme, group publisher of Cruising World, Sailing World and the NOOD Regattas. “This opens up fresh possibilities for the sailing series and supports our commitment to providing outstanding competition and a quality experience on the water and on shore.”
Francke also noted that Helly Hansen is proud to showcase long-term commitment by supporting sailing at all levels from around-the-world racing to offshore, one-design, cruising, local youth programs, and to those just trying the sport for the first time.
Helly Hansen is joining a long list of remarkable title sponsors including IBM, GMC Yukon, Jeep, Lands’ End, and most recently Sperry Top-Sider. Other 2015 sponsors include North Sails, Mount Gay Rum, West Marine and Sunsail.
