New York, N.Y. — Bonnier Corp. has announced the promotion of Cliff Ransom to editor-in-chief of Popular Science. Ransom has been the executive editor of Popular Science since February 2011.

“Cliff’s creative vision for Popular Science, his extensive experience in magazine media, and his background as a scientist make him the ideal choice to lead this brand into the future,” said Anthony Licata, editorial director of the Bonnier Men’s Group. “Cliff is already the driving force behind many of Popular Science‘s most innovative and successful stories and editorial programs, and I can’t wait to see where he takes the brand next.”

“I’m thrilled to be a part of Popular Science at this very moment,” said Ransom. “In its 141-year history, the brand has never been in a better position. The demand for quality science and technology editorial content is tremendous, and our team has a bold, clear vision for the magazine’s future. I look forward to leading Popular Science into a new era.”

Prior to joining Bonnier Corp., Ransom served as deputy editor at Budget Travel and features editor at National Geographic Adventure. He started his editorial career at science magazines, first at The Sciences, a publication of the New York Academy of Sciences, and then at Discover. Before moving into media, Ransom worked as a researcher in a genomics lab at New York University and an economic botany lab at the New York Botanical Garden. Ransom has a B.A. from NYU in molecular biology and is completing his M.B.A. at NYU as well, with a specialization in media and entertainment, finance, and marketing.
