New York, N.Y. — Bonnier Corp. has announced the promotion of Elizabeth Burnham Murphy to Chief Marketing Officer — the first CMO on the corporate level for the media company. Burnham Murphy moves up from the Men’s Group, where she held the same title.

“As integrated marketing and client-based solutions continue to grow for media companies like Bonnier, Liz’s promotion is our effort to further our ambitions as a progressive media company,” said Bonnier Executive Vice President Eric Zinczenko. “It’s a natural extension of the corporate-level work she is already doing, including the launch of our new custom solutions group.”

Burnham Murphy instituted the new corporate unit, Bonnier Custom Solutions, last summer. This group creates innovative media products that clients are now demanding to reach their core audiences. The unit has already achieved great success with the launch of the Union Sportsmen’s Journal, published on behalf of the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance conservation group, and the photo-centric custom publication Imaging Edge, published on behalf of Sony.

“I believe in putting an emphasis not only on our client marketing but on viewing marketing as an opportunity to build strategic partnerships for brand awareness and new revenue streams,” said Burnham Murphy. “This new opportunity will allow for more cross-company communication to support our integrated marketing efforts and the delivery of best-in-class products to our partners.”

Burnham Murphy joined Bonnier’s Field & Stream and Outdoor Life brands 15 years ago and has held several key positions within the team, including associate publisher, marketing; her most recent position was as chief marketing officer of the Bonnier Men’s Group, which in addition to the outdoor brands includes Popular Science, Popular Photography and American Photo. Working with Bonnier’s corporate partners, Burnham Murphy has grown new revenue opportunities for the brands through the creation of media extensions such as full-length television series and licensing opportunities, including her work on the launch of the Outdoor Life apparel line in Sears stores across the country. Under her leadership, the marketing unit earned 10 integrated marketing awards from Media Industry News, including being named MIN‘s 2012 Marketing Team of the Year.

Bonnier Corp. is one of the largest consumer-publishing groups in the U.S. and is the leading media company serving passionate, highly engaged audiences, through magazines, events, digital media and leading-edge products.
