In January 2018, Bonnier Corp. will publish its first-ever Marine Electronics Annual special issue, an insider’s look at the latest technology in marine navigation, communication, safety, sport and entertainment. The project is a new collaboration between several of the company’s leading brands: Boating, Cruising World, Salt Water Sportsman and Yachting.

The special issue will deep-dive into the latest products, trends, breakthroughs and voices within marine electronics from a first-look insider perspective, rather than a traditional catalog format. Editorial content includes product profiles and reviews; trending stories; 3-D images and early sketches of new product designs; interviews with industry insiders like developers and specialists; technical breakdowns of products and how they work; and insight into consumer behavior derived from Bonnier Corp.’s most recent audience surveys.

Because technology is constantly evolving, this “what’s new, now, next” approach makes the print issue hyper-relevant at the time of distribution. As part of this initiative, each of the brand websites will also house a Marine Electronics Guide section, a comprehensive digital resource where new innovations and products will be covered in real-time.

Anecdotal evidence and audience feedback shows that updates on marine electronics technology is the main driver of reader engagement across these Bonnier Corp. channels. The audience for this issue was carefully curated from those subscriber bases to create a highly targeted selection of marine enthusiasts who are most likely to purchase marine electronics.

“Marine electronics is a $3.2 billion market—and growing,”  said Shawn Bean, editorial director. “The industry is also constantly moving forward thanks to new technology and innovation. Considering its size and scope, our readers need more than the periodic print column or product roundup. The Marine Electronics Annual answers that need: we are giving our readers a dedicated, up-to-date resource of information, and providing our manufacturer and marketing partners with an opportunity to reach a widespread enthusiast audience that isn’t isolated by the type of boat they own—powerboat, sailboat or yacht.”

The 2018 Marine Electronics Guide will be distributed in early January.
