New York, N.Y. — Adam Sachs has been named editor-in-chief of Saveur, it was announced today by David Ritchie, chief content officer, Bonnier Corp. He will oversee the magazine and its digital properties. His appointment is effective Oct. 6.
Sachs joins Saveur from Tasting Table where he was the editorial director of the culinary website and newsletter. He also served as a contributing editor for Bon Appétit, Travel + Leisure and Details magazines. Sachs’s Bon Appétit column, “The Obsessivore” won two James Beard Awards for Best Food-Related Column in 2013 and 2014. He also won a 2013 James Beard Award for a piece in Travel + Leisure about eating in Copenhagen. In addition, his travel stories have won several NATJA Awards from the North American Travel Journalists Association. Sachs’s work will be included in the anthology, “Best Food Writing 2014” coming out next month.
“We had the opportunity to spend time with many excellent candidates during the search,” Ritchie said. “Through it all, Adam set himself apart. His passion for food and travel, his award-winning journalism, his vision for the brand, and his hands-on work in a digitally native business was a potent mix that we’re really excited to bring to this team. Adam understands this category well, has great editorial instincts, and he has a contemporary vision for how to grow Saveur and further engage its community.”
“I’ve been lucky enough to spend my career exploring the world and telling stories through food,” Sachs says. “That mission is at the core of what Saveur has always done with great elegance, intelligence and style. I couldn’t be more excited to lead this brand and find new ways to expand its reach while sharing its passion for the pleasures of dining, drinking, cooking and traveling.”
“I can’t think of a better person to partner with to help guide Saveur into the future,” added Kristin Cohen, publisher of Saveur. “Not only is he a James Beard Award winner, he intimately understands the epicurean and travel categories, and has vast digital knowledge that will be exciting to both our advertisers and our audience as we look to grow the brand.”
Previously, Sachs was a senior staff writer at GQ and before that he edited the food section of Time Out New York. His stories about food, travel and lifestyle have also appeared in The New York Times T Style, Garden & Gun, Food & Wine and Condé Nast Traveler. A Kentucky native, Sachs is a graduate of Tufts University and lives in Brooklyn with his family.
