The Parenting Group Names Susan Kane New Editorial Director

New York, NY – Bonnier Corporation announced today that Susan Kane has been named editorial director of The Parenting Group, where she will oversee all editorial content development for Parenting, Babytalk and Parenting.com.  In addition, Kane will also serve as editor-in-chief of Parenting magazine.  She succeeds Janet Chan, who will be stepping down after 11 years as editorial director of The Parenting Group.  Chan will continue to serve the Group as editorial consultant.

Kane was previously editor-in-chief of Babytalk magazine, a role she has served since joining The Parenting Group in November 1998.  Since then, she has increased the magazine's reach to over 5 million readers, helping women navigate the emotional roller coaster and practical realities of being a new mom.

Kane spearheaded the successful repositioning of all three publications in the Babytalk franchise in 2005 – Babytalk, Babytalk Mom-to-Be, and Babytalk First Months.  During her tenure, Babytalk has been a recipient of numerous industry awards, including a 2002 ASME National Magazine Award nomination and a 2005 win in the Personal Service category; a Henry R. Luce Award in the public service category; and an ASME "Best Cover" nomination in 2007 for the magazine's special issue on breastfeeding in August 2006.  Kane frequently appears on national television on behalf of Babytalk, providing commentary on new mom issues for programs including TODAY, Good Morning America and The Early Show.   She recently edited Babytalk's first book, The Babytalk Insider's Guide to Your Baby's First Year, published by Wellness Central Publishing in February 2008.

"Susan's intuitive understanding of the mom reader and her needs has turned Babytalk into a magazine that stands apart from the rest of the parenting category," said Terry Snow, CEO of Bonnier Corporation.  "We're looking forward to seeing the results as she brings her vision and fresh approach to content for moms to the rest of the Parenting Group portfolio."

Greg Schumann, Vice President and Group Publisher of The Parenting Group added, "Susan is the perfect fit for this role, and I'm thrilled that she'll be leading the editorial development of Parenting, Babytalk and Parenting.com as we evolve our properties to meet the needs of a new generation of moms."

Prior to joining Babytalk, Kane held positions as executive editor at YM, executive editor at New Woman and senior editor at Woman.  A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Vassar College, Susan lives in Chappaqua, New York with her husband and two children.
