Head of Bonnier’s Global Mag+ Initiative to Lead New U.S. Digital Projects

Bonnier Corp. CEO Terry Snow has announced the appointment of Sara Öhrvall as the new Director of Research & Development. Öhrvall has been leading the celebrated Mag+ concept for Bonnier's parent company in Sweden. In recent months she has been working closely with Popular Science leading up to last week's debut of its Mag+ edition on the Apple iPad.

"The addition of Sara full-time to Bonnier here in the U.S. enhances our dedication to emerging media," Snow says. "Her insight and vision made the launch of Popular Science+ a huge success, and we expect the same for the rest of our brands." Plans for the upcoming months include elevated development and upgrades for the Mag+ platform as more of Bonnier's U.S. magazines are rolled out on the iPad and other tablets.

"This is a very exciting time for the company as we develop and modernize magazines for the e-reader future," says Öhrvall, who will be based in Bonnier's San Francisco office and report directly to Terry Snow. "We're proud that Bonnier is truly a company of the future, now at the forefront with the fantastic new technology of the iPad." In addition to her focus on the Mag+ project for the U.S. titles, her R&D department will be responsible for selected digital media projects focusing on future business opportunities for Bonnier Corp. She will immediately begin staffing up her department with new recruits as well as internal resources.

Öhrvall brings to Bonnier's U.S. division an impressive background working in Tokyo, London, Singapore and Brussels in addition to her work in research and development in Sweden for Bonnier. She also worked at Volvo Cars, where she was responsible for concept development of hybrid, sports and eco-friendly cars. Other experiences include managing director and partner of brand agency Differ and founder of the innovation-focused consulting firm Ninety.

She has an MBA from Umeå Business School in Sweden. She has also studied architecture and design at Parsons School of Design in New York.
