Field & Stream Lands Two National Magazine Award Nominations
March 20, 2008 New York, NY –Field & Stream, published by the Bonnier Corporation, was recognized for editorial excellence with two National Magazine Award nominations from the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME), announced this week. The ASME awards represent the magazine industry's highest annual honor. Of the 128 finalists, Field & Stream is the only hunting or fishing magazine represented. "It's extremely gratifying to be recognized by our peers and to be in such great company," said Anthony Licata, Editor of Field & Stream. "We have a finely tuned, passionate staff and the nominations are really a tribute to them and to the power of this brand." Field & Stream, the world's leading outdoor magazine, was recognized in two categories: Personal Service, recognizing excellence in service journalism, for a two-part package, F&S Survival Guide: Survivor and F&S Survival Guide: Never Get Lost Again, by Keith McCafferty, February. Leisure Interests, recognizing excellent service journalism about leisure-time pursuits, for a two-part package, The Rut Calendar '07, by Gerald Almy; Huge Successes, as told to Bill Heavey, November. "Our editors are at the top of their craft and these nominations are well deserved recognition of their talent and dedication to the brand." In its 112-year history, Field & Stream has previously been nominated for ten National Magazine Awards, including seven nominations in the last two years. Other nominees for Personal Service are Good Housekeeping, O, The Oprah Magazine, and Popular Mechanics. Nominees in the Leisure Interests category include Domino, Men's Health, Time Out Chicago and New York. The National Magazine Awards, known as the "Ellies," are the "Oscars" of magazine publishing and the preeminent program in the industry to honor editorial excellence. The American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) sponsors the awards program in association with the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. Finalists were chosen by 270 judges from the country's top digital and print magazines. A record-setting 1,964 entries were submitted by 333 print and online publications. Awards will be presented in 25 categories at a black-tie evening event on May 1 in New York City.
