Bergqvist Named Senior Editor of Bonnier’s Flying Magazine
January 05, 2011 Winter Park, Fla. — Flying magazine has named Pia Bergqvist senior editor. An experienced pilot and journalist, Bergqvist brings to the Flying team a wealth of experience in aviation fields including aircraft sales, flight training, product support, media relations and aviation journalism. "We at Flying are delighted to have Pia join this dynamic team," said Flying editor-in-chief Robert Goyer. "With her extensive experience as a flight instructor, her impressive skills as an aviation journalist, her knowledge of the light general aviation marketplace and her passion for bringing the gift of flight to new pilots, Pia will help us expand our reach to readers who have yet to get in touch with the joys and challenges of flying. At the same time, as an accomplished pilot and aircraft owner, she comes to the job already speaking the language of readers who love all kinds of flying, from recreational to personal transportation. We couldn't be happier to have Pia join the Flying family." The addition of Bergqvist complements the hiring two weeks ago of aviation industry veteran Stephen Pope, also as senior editor. Berqvist's expertise in flight training, her extensive knowledge of the general aviation industry and her West Coast location will add to Flying's ability to effectively cover the gamut of aviation activity across the United States and beyond. "Bringing Pia to our team," said Goyer, "gives Flying the breadth of talent, skills and coverage we have long needed to bring exciting coverage not only to Flying magazine but to our electronic platforms, as well." Bergqvist's hiring completes the restructuring that began with the naming of Goyer as editor-in-chief earlier this year. Before coming to Flying, Berqgvist held positions at Cessna, where she served as an aircraft product expert and, prior to that, as a communications and media relations specialist. She has also held a sales position at Liberty Aerospace and served as senior editor at Plane & Pilot magazine. Bergqvist is a certified flight instructor, as well as a multi-engine and instrument flight instructor, with nearly 3,000 hours total time and experience in dozens of different models of airplanes. Bergqvist earned a bachelor of science in professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. "I am honored to join the professional, passionate and progressive team at Flying," said Bergqvist. "The magazine's 83-year legacy is awe-inspiring, and to walk in the footsteps of writers such as Richard Bach, whose book Jonathan Livingston Seagull captured my imagination as a teenager, is humbling. I look forward to the challenges and opportunities at this storied magazine." Flying is published monthly by Bonnier Corp.
